Note from the Author

Change is an inevitable part of life and something we all need to accept. As the Greek Philosopher Heraclitus stated, “The Only Constant in Life is Change.”  It is through change and new life experiences that we each learn, grow and evolve.  Whilst it is important to embrace change, it is even more important to remain true to oneself, particularly in the face of change.  This is the underlying message within the pages of my book.  

Prompted by observations of the effects of the Covid-19 global pandemic on children and families, I felt it timely and necessary to share this message in a creative format that would engage children around the world.  After all, it is today’s youth that creates tomorrow’s future.

When it came time to engage an illustrator, I reflected upon the need for authenticity, simplicity and the importance of reaching my target audience.  After all, ‘a picture tells a thousand words.’  I knew I needed someone pure of heart; someone to deliver a creative truthfulness and capture the genuine wonder and innocence of a child.  

That’s when I approached Jessie Belle van Loon.  At the age of only 15, Jessie has illustrated my first children’s book, in the shortest timespan imaginable, whilst juggling high school and tertiary study commitments.
